A secret Paul Wing showed me...

I always marvelled at the extreme DOF Paul's flower shots and industrial
studies achieved. I thought he was using some tilt or shift or something
exotic, until he showed me his camera...

It's an old pre-war folder, maybe an iconta. He cut and fitted an
ancient 35 mm film back on it, which also has a provision for ground
glass focusing/viewing. The camera originally had a Tessar on it which
Paul claimed was a poor performer for CUs; he ripped it off and clugged
on a different lens, a million year old 100 mm schneider I think and a
formulation they don't make anymore (uncoated).

But the secret is the lens stops down to f/45, and that's what he shoots
at all the time. You should see this rig... it's worn to shit, it's all
hacked up, you wouldn't look twice at it if it was on a table in some
garage sale somewhere, it just looks like an old piece of junk that
couldn't possible still work...

He still shoots with it... you should see the pictures...
