Actually I would put fade and dissolve down as one of the
disadvantages of projection.

My wife developed a really bad headache and had to leave a NYSS
meeting when Jon Golden got too enthusiastic demonstrating one of the
Bracket(sp?) projectors.  I also had discomfort, but stayed to see the
rest of the show.  The images were great but the presentation was
awful.
