If I did this what I would do is run a full width piece down 
each side of the mount with the excess hanging out the side. I 
would then close the mount and press the edges. Then I would 
take a scalpel or other sharp instrument and run it down the 
edge of the mount. You could then either throw away this piece 
or re-use it on the next mount.
