I use the envelopes from Photographers Supply in San Francisco.
The envelopes then go to a "Kodak" lab in Oakland, and I then must pick
them up at Photographers Supply. I would prefer to send them off
through a developing service closer to the house. I stopped by the
Safeway food store. They have Kodak processing, however they send out
to a Kodak lab in Manteca, Calif. I called the lab and spoke with
customer service, and explained I was using the Horizon format negative,
24 X 58 mm. She assured me they do not do that size negative, that they
only do 35mm for panoramic prints. I had a feeling they did not
understand. In any event she agreed the lab did the 4 X 12 pan prints.
I have decided to shoot a roll in the horizon, and expose maybe about 6
frames and send them off marking the Kodak process and Panoramic Prints.
In addition I will write special instructions as follows:
HORIZON 35 mm panoramic prints 24 X 58mm neg format
This is what I did for Photographers Supply, and they came out fine.
Either they will print the 6 frames to 4 X 12 inch prints correctly, and
charge $.59 each plus process, or send the roll back saying they cannot
do the job, or screw them up all together. It would be worth the cost
to find out. Once I get them back from Safeway, I will let you know, or
you can also try it yourself. The fog is starting to break here, and I
will go out and shoot a few frames, and send them off. It takes about a
week to ten days.
