Tom, David, Gene,

I believe VueScan and the HP Photo Smart can do what you want. This
combination can scan 24x150 (approx) to a single scan file.

I use it this way to scan a strip of 4 standard negs to a single file. I
extract individual 24x36 frames from the single scan file (I use a
conventional 35mm camera to make stitched panoramas). There's no reason you
couldn't scan a long frame with this technique.

I'm scanning at the 1200dpi resolution (the scanner can do 2400 also) which
gives a scan size of approximately 1200x1700 for 24x36 frame. I am very
happy with the results -- the scans are sharp and the colors are good. I
do, however, scan to an uncorrected 30-bit file and color correct with
homemade software.

You can see some examples of stitched panoramas made with VueScan, the HP
Photo Smart and PhotoVista on my web page.
