Not my experience, but (as I recall) mine was a Mark III. I've seen earlier numbers
with shiny, smooth pressure plates, which certainly was NOT the case with mine.
Also, on mine the rear slide/lock was quite sloppy.

On the other hand, there are not many options to accomplish what you can with a
V-Pan. Has anybody used a 6x24 Linhof?
