Panoramic pictures with PC

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed some correspondence about printing 11x44 
panoramic pictures with Epson EX printers. 

I am thinking about a new PC (celeron/400 MHz), a 17” Sony monitor; and a new 
Epson 1200 (waiting for it).  Meanwhile, I have a Umax 600S scanner, and I am 
planning to get a transparency adapter such that I can scan in those 6x17 
chromes.  

I have a number of hardware and software questions.  I would appreciate very 
much if some fellow panoramic enthusiasts would be willing to give me some 
advice/suggestions.
