They (MSC) have springs thick enough but sell only on huge quantity.  I
think the price is over $250 for a roll of spring material.  There is
certainly a better solution.

I would consider bronze or berrilium copper.  then it can be bought in
sheets and it is easier to cut as well.

In Seattle for example there is Alaskan Copper and Brass Co.  and NO I don't
have a connection.....
