I assume that the slide degradation curves and estimates (Kodak, Fuji, etc)
for slides viewed in your viewer requires use of the "projection" figures,
or perhaps a new set of figures. Have you done lifetimes tests of various
films viewed in your xenon lamp viewer to see which last longer (presumably
in pS to make the numbers reasonable) ?

P.S. - For your carbon arc version of viewer, I'd suggest looking into NASA
government surplus for some heat-pipe technology items which may help
with the cooling. White-light laser sources may also be available from
       that same source.

P.P.S. - Seriously, I don't think I want to go beyond the 2W lamps that Dr. T.
sells. Except perhaps for a few seriously underexposed slides (like
when the flash wasn't quite recharged yet). Those 2W ones are magnificent
compared to the default bulb or even the somewhat better but still wimpy
non-halogen bulbs. In color as well as brightness.
