Brighter is better.
I am working on a modification to the viewer so that it will
accomodate a xenon bulb. (I had tried regular carbon arc, but
found some drawbacks - i.e. the viewer overheated; the fumes
blocked the viewing path; the bulky gloves I had to wear made
operating the button and changing slides difficult.)
In order to accomodate the xenon bulb, It is necessary to make
some modifications to the viewer. Batteries cannot supply the
voltage and amperage required, so heavy duty, asbestos insulated
wires need to be run from the outside.
I am also looking to affix ducting and a 500 cfm exhaust fan to
the viewer to remove the heat build-up.
Most of the body of the viewer needs to be removed in order to
accomodate the front surfaced parabolic reflector(s) - I am
considering using a pair of bulbs and reflectors.
The xenon bulb may provide an interim solution until I can
complete the work on the fibre-optic light pipes I have designed
which will bring in sunlight gathered by the 6 acre mirror
array I will be putting on the hillside behind my lab-OHR-atry...
In the meantime, I find I need to wear protective eye-wear when
using the xenon lamp-equipped viewer. No. 7 welser's mask works
well.
I vill make zee brrightness my goal!
(I bet he hasn't taken his medication in QUITE a while...!)
