silver screen performance

I set up two screens side by side to check their performance. Screen A is a
Da-Lite Silver Pacer, 50" x 50", lenticular 25 vertical lines/inch.
Screen B is
a Radiant ColorMaster (flat silver), 50" x 50". The TDC 116 projector
with 5"
lenses was set up at 12' from the screens. A stereo image was projected
with a
white area. Viewing the image from 12' *without* polarizing glasses, the
lines
of the lenticular screen were clearly visible. With polarizing glasses, the
lines were *barely* visible. Since my audience is always seated closer
than 12',
the lenticular screen's lines would always be visible. I didn't find this too
objectionable until I was about 5' from the screen, when I felt the lines
were
interfering with image resolution. At 5' from the flat silver screen,
there was
no problem. However, the texture of the flat silver screen (that of the
canvas
backing) became noticeable at about 4' from the screen.

Viewing on axis, I estimated that the silver screen produced an image
about 15%
brighter. At about 10 degrees off axis, both images were about the same
brightness.
