Julie Porter asks about taking stereos of a stage set. I think since the
set is stationary, I would go with an SLR and a slide bar. That's my
approach to anything that's stationary because then you get flexibility
in choice of lenses and you will get sharp lenses. I would set up a
number of slave flashes along with a main flash. You would also need a
key light up high to represent the sun. I wouldn't go faster than ASA
100 or 200 for the film so as to avoid graininess. An alternative is to
get some tungsten Ektachrome and use the existing stage lighting. Since
the object is stationary, you have the option of long exposures allowing
the use of low-power tungsten. You say you're interested in Photo CD.
Is this to make free view pairs? If it is, remember you're going to want
a lens in the 50 to 100 mm range to avoid excessive stretch of the third
dimension. If you use a 100 mm lens, for instance, you should view from
about 4X the height of the finished image. Shorter lenses will require
viewing from a proportionately closer distance. Cross-eyed viewing
allows larger images unless you're really good at wall-eyed.
