Wheatstone is better known for the "Wheatstone Bridge", a device that
measures electrical resistance. It is so elementary that it is found even
in high shcool texts on Electricity.
He was an experimentalist and not a theorist. He was involved in many
different areas and has many inventions.
As aperson he was shy and did not like public speaking. It took him many
years from the time that he invented the mirror stereoscope to the time
that he presened his famous 3-d paper in front of the Royal Society.
Umfortunately, through his life ge got into bitter disputes with several
other personalities regarding his inventions, including David Brewster
regarding the stereoscope.
Disclaimer: The above are out of memory and could be inaccuarte.
