Honestly I must say that I am very critical towards any self-adhesive
items. Most labels and self-adhesive envelopes or slide-mounts will
work for approx. 5 to 10 years - but then the glue will become dry and
the label will just fall off -- like a leaf in autumn.

Therefore, I always try to use gummed labels and envelopes if they are
meant for storage. Obviously, this doesn't help a lot with RBT's plastic
mounts. If I have to write something on them, I just use a thin black
permanent felt-tip marker (those permanent markers for Overhead-Projectors
just work fine).

This does of course not eliminate some sort of poor/illegible handwriting.
Maybe one of you high-tech whiz-kids out there can build a slide-inscription
machine ("Inscript-O-Mat" would be a typical american name for such a
device <grin>) based either on ink-jet technology (with permanent/waterproof
ink) or on a good ol' computer plotter which uses ... well: that permanent
felt-tip pen mentioned above.

Be creative...
