Stuck retaining ring on a Kodak Stereo

I am about to purchase a seris 5 UV filter for my Kodak Stereo but have run into a hitch. The 
filter retaining ring on the camera does not want to unscrew ( AT ALL ). It has probably been in 
place for something like 40 years and seems extremely happy to stay that way. I, on the other 
hand, want the situation to change.

        Has anyone had a problem like this - and even better, a solution?
