Slide duplicating/Photo CD

I wanted to have some slides duplicated so I contacted Barrie Bieler, in walnut
creek. I used to work in that city, the phone # in the reel 3d catalog was
wrong, however I was able to figure out the prefix. Anyway I felt his turn
around time was too long, so I had alpha cd scan them instead.
I got mixed results. I submited them to alpha cd in the cardboard realist
mounts. The slide film does not have near the latitude of the negitive, but
this is to be expected, apparently alpha had some trouble fitting the mounts
into the scanner, the first 18 frames (nine complete imageges) have some major
cropping problems two of the frames have almost a 16th of the image cropped on
the right side, the scans do get better as they progress though. Alpha has
promised to redo the cropped frames. The other problem is a slight rotational
distortion, I had asked them to remove the chips. the one single chip (it was a
dark frame Iwanted to enhance) that was scaned sans mount, had (white) clear
sides with some bleed on the edges, so I think they took the better trade off.
Anyway I now have some of my potental expo images scanned, Now to find a good
film recorder service in the bay area.
