red/blue/green??
Harry M. took pity on me after my last posting and sent me a pair of red/blue
glasses (thanks!). The next day, while lurking around the HalfPrice Book
Store I uncovered a copy of 'The Mask' video. Talk about a strange
coincidence (put the mask on...Put The Mask On...PUT THE MASK ON!...) I
tried to watch it that night but fell asleep about halfway through.
Anyway I was surprised to discover that when people were talking about
red/blue glasses they meant RED/BLUE glasses. Really RED and really BLUE.
Believe it or not my previous exposure to colored anaglyphs other than
the ones I made myself was limited to red/green comics. Everything
else I learned from posts by William Carter et al, and from experimentation.
Also a few web images of varying origin, and of suspicious color due to
monitor and display-program differences.
Many of these images should be called "limited spectrum red/blue" having
no natural coloration, and often having a strong yellow cast when viewed
through the glasses. In constructing my own lenses the goal was to have
as natural a picture as possible which would give 3D when viewed with the
glasses. I have been using paired filters which effectively divide the
spectrum into two parts with a sharp cutoff between. Ideally the two
filters would pass complementary wavelengths all through the spectrum
without overlap, but that seems unrealistic.
Looking at my pics with the RED/BLUE glasses is awful. Guess I'll need
to supply a pair of filters for Expo2. Are there other glasses available
that are more red/blue-green?
Back to The Mask. It seemed to be tuned more for red/green than red/blue.
I definitely liked it better with my own filters. The 3D part was ok
if a bit laughable at times (the 38D part was a hoot).
