Express slide mounting
>How do you mount a 36 exp. roll in 1 hour?
I must confess that I have *never* used a mounting gage or a light
table not even for SLR pairs, and expecially not for Realist pairs which
are perfectly aligned. I use the edges of the mounting mask to check
alignment and correct stereo window. Judging from the compliments that I
receive for my mounting skills, I must be doing something right...
So, we have: 5 minutes to cut and separate the 30 or so pairs, 15 minutes
to put them in their mounts (I use Albion aluminum mounts but don't think
that this matters) and 40 minutes to enjoy them. ;)
When I am done I usually keep about 10-15 pictures per roll. I keep them
in place with aluminum (silver) tape. I do not use foldovers or glass for
most of them but only about a dozen or two a year (out of 500 to 1000).
I used to take the time to make labels, keep track of each slide with a
unique numbering system based on film number, keep a record for every slide
with the camera and film used and store the slides neatly in albums. Now,
I am so busy, I just write right on the mask with a permanent marker and
throw the slides in an unorganized pile, so I can never find what I am
looking for. Putting an order in this chaos will be a nice retirement
project.
