I filed down the contact on my Revere and it works fine. A word of caution,
though: The protruding contact is something like a rivet. As you file it
down, the diameter of the resulting "pad" will drop very quickly as you
get right down to the insulation disk under the head of the rivet. So work
slowly and carefully as you get close to the end result. Be sure to keep the
face of the file parallel to the bottom of the shoe, and use masking tape to
protect the otherwise shiny parts of the inside of the shoe from scuffs in
case you accidentally tip the file a bit.

I went ahead and completely filed the head off the rivet, leaving a perfectly
flush contact with a diameter only as wide as the shaft of the rivet. True,
this gives the contact on the flash less of a target with which to make
contact on the camera, but I've yet to have my flash not fire because
of improper line-up.
