I would like to see the list stay as is. I joined because I wanted to expand
my knowledge of stereo photography, not just keep it constant. The only way
to expand knowledge is to be exposed to differing or new ideas and
techniques. I always enjoy reading about stereo topics that I knew nothing ,
or little about, and I like having this at a single location.
Sifting through the occassional repeat question, odd topic, or personal
message is no problem for me. I enjoy the idiosynchracies of this list, so
much so that I sometimes contribute to them. ;-)
Item 1: On repeating questions: I always thought this was due to new
members coming online, not aware of previous posts and not knowing, or
knowing how, to use the archives. Maybe I was wrong. Still it doesn't
bother me to see the same questions, because the answers this time may be
different. Just because the question was answered last year does't mean it
was the correct, or best, or only, answer. New members mean new ideas on old
issues.
Item 2: Cost of service: I too use AOL . My monthly bill is also about $24.
But it isn't the Photo-3D list that causes this bill, it's my family. My 3D
use of AOL is only about 2 hours a month. This includes daily downloading of
list messages. I do the reading and response mail offline, log on only to
send. But I do agree with the observation of a tremendous amount of mail
waiting for one after a brief absense.
Item 3: I appreciate the time and thought that John B. put into this list
format analysis, it is necessary to question these things every so often to
prevent "list staleness".
