Apparently we are not tuned to the same wavelength.  Because I agree
with everything that you said and yet it sounds as if we are in some
kind of disagreement.
 
When I called the VM format inexpensive, I had in mind the fact
that you can get 72 3-d images from one single roll and spend less 
money for mounting (compared say to RBT mounts) or viewers with modern
VM viewers.  I was thinking of the amateur VM photographer, not the 
professional like yourself.  
 
VM is and will remain a great medium for distributing one's 3-d work.
And for professional 3-d work, VM or print or any 3-d format, is 
certainly not cheap.
