I agree. If a 3D newsgroup were started up, it would be good to be very
cautious about any sort of gateway. The discussions on photo-3d are
remarkably good-mannered.

Part of the problem was the name - "alt.3d" is ambiguous in this context.
"rec.photo.3d" might get less of that. (This was proposed several years ago -
since the list has become so large, adding a newsgroup seems less important.)

You wouldn't be slipping in a few obscure science fiction movie references,
would you? That sounds suspiciously like a mixture of "Five Million Years
to Earth" (1968), plus "The Thing" (1982 version), plus (?).

In response to the *other* recent film reference ("The 5,000 Fingers of 
Dr. T.", 1953), that movie is perhaps the only major example of the work of 
Dr. Seuss in live action (and therefore made using props that had to be 
implemented in 3D).
