Well "mandatory" may be going a bit far. I've taken more than a few that get
consistent oohs and aahs, even from experienced viewers, and that have 
soft backgrounds. 

Soft foregrounds? No way. They've gotta be SHARP. 

That's _mandatory._ :-)
