Re: Stereo Graphic question.

#2. Is there a good reason why most of the cameras I have read about produce
#half frame images, Is there a technical reason (e.g. you can't get the lenses
#close enough together and still expose two full frame 35mm images ?). If there
#are full frame cameras what are they ?

The image size is a compromise of the following two items:

1. A desire to get get interocular distance (distance between the lenses)
to as close to 65mm as possible.
3. (2, sir!) 2. Desire to not waste film.

If you look at it you'll see there are several sizes which fit this. The
one additional complication is that two main "advances" were used - the first,
like your Wray, advances the same amount of film each time. Another film
format, the "European" format, advances alternately 1 frame and 3 frames;
that's due again to the two conditions above.

By the way, the Wray is really slightly larger than half-frame. A full 35mm
frame is 8 perforations (8P) of the 35mm film. The Wray, and other Realist
format cameras, take photos which are 5P wide. "European" format is 7P wide.

I have some sketches of this on my WEB site, if you can look at that, which
may help. You can get directly to the page describing film formats by the

#Treat me gently this is my first posting :->

This is a pretty gentle group (as long as you don't say your Wray
is better than a Realist/beamsplitter/Revere/etc.etc.etc ;)
