Brings back memories it does.  Around about the summer of '83 I bought,
I'm almost sure it was, a "Reflecta Silber" whilst trekking around 
Germany. Beautifully built, clearly a stereo-perfect flat silver
surface, and not very expensive.  I hauled that thing all over,
managed to package it up and get it through customs and back home.
Damned thing depolarized totally. Sold it at a photo swap meet for
five bucks (to a flattie), gathered courage, and went on with life.

Ah, but what could have been....

(I assume the culprit was a protective coating over the "silver". But
the point is, sometimes, "skim milk masquerades as cream". (G and S)
