Flash Sync on a Wray Stereographic

I've recently run a couple of film through my Stereographic using a flash
connected via a PC lead. The flash fires as expected and I am setting the
aperture based on the "Exposure Index" on the back of the flash.
Seven days later - pick the slides up and ... disaster the shots taken
with the flash are exposed as if the flash did not fire, any daylight
shots have come out exposed as expected.
To check what was going on I (don't try this at home !) opened the
camera up plugged the flash in and pointed the flash at one of the lenses
and fired the shutter...unsuprisingly I was blinded by the flash -( .
After more cautious testing I believe the flash is firing before the
shutter starts opening.
Is this a known problem ?
Are modern flashes too fast for this camera ?
On a different (I think) point, when set to the B setting, the shutters
are reluctant to shut completely when releasing the button, they do shut
when you start to wind the film on
All suggestions greatly received.
Thanks
