How much are you asking for this book currently?

How much for your overhaul these days?

This doesn't surprise me, as a removed and put back the plate myself a
couple of times, without paying any attention to whether the spring
was rubbing the plate. It would seem difficult to keep any spacing
between them, since all I was able to do was hook the spring on its
plastic post, and then try to get the plate back into position without
the spring popping off.

Something to look into.

Any way to clean them in place? I can take apart the advance mechanism.

I haven't noticed internal reflections, but I'll look.

Any suggestions for fixing the advance? I assume something can be
bent slightly so it won't pull the reel back when it returns to
position.

Thanks, George.
