Re: Any Nimslo's for sale?

#Question: "How much is a Nimslo going for today?"
#
I'll try a serious answer - last year, I saw a few at swap
meets, they were asking about $100 for one.
#Every camera/technique/format has its own merits and uses.
#Personally, I am not a "purist".
You mean you don't care if someone uses a 3.5 or 2.8??? ;)
What about me? Am I a "bastard child" when I use my 45? ;)
#An unmodified Nimslo camera is not a general-purpose 3-d camera
#like a Realist. If you expect to use it to shoot landscapes,
#then you are going to be very disappointed. The Nimslo camera
#has several specialized uses (including the one of passing it to
#the "I-am-afraid-of-manual-control" spouse - note: I say this
#without any gender specification). I have seen good slides
#taken with it. If you have reasons to prefer an unmodified
#Nimslo over a regular stereo camera then go ahead and enjoy it
#but be aware of its limitations and be ready to try something
#different/better.
I think you're overlooking what is, IMHO, the greatest
strength of the Nimslo - it makes a very nice, inexpensive
stereo macro camera. I don't own one myself, but a friend
does, and he uses it exclusively for close-up work. Has some
nice pictures of his cats, butterflies, etc. Yeah, it's
not a Realist Macro camera, but you could probably do the
whole thing for under $100.
In answer to the original poster, one simple way to do this
is to go to the corner drug store and buy "reading" glasses,
which come in various powers. You remove the "ear" pieces,
and use a rubber band to center one of the lenses over
the center two lenses on the Nimslo. This will bring the
focus point in, how close depends on the diopter of the
reading glasses you buy. Someone posted a table here
recently, I'll dig it up if interested.
When you get your slides back, you can use one of the
half-frame "slip in" mounts that Reel 3D sells. You use
the two center frames, and throw away the outer two.
This would be a good section for the "3D Tutorial"
section on the WEB, wouldn't it? It comes up often
enough...
