Large sculptures in NYS
To answer the query regarding stereogenic sculpture in New York State: I
suspect the query refers to the Griffis Sculpture Park, about 100 miles S/W
of Rochester. As it is near our family farm I have been there often. It
is quite amazing a place; a beautiful locale in the foothills of the
Allegheny mountains, with ponds, forests, fields, I would guess several
hundred acres; dotted with many large and varied sculptures. There is no
admission fee although contributions are welcome. Would I make a special
trip to see the place if I were attending the NSA convention from out of
town? Hmm. I would hate to take that much time away from convention
activities, but if I had an extra day and a car I would want to loop around
western NY and take in Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and Griffis. For history
buffs, there is also Fort Niagara, a revolutionary war vintage restoration
at the confluence of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. All of this would
be a very long day trip, but one would see a lot. End of commercial (no,
I'm not with the Chamber of Commerce!)
