RE: movie film restoration etc. fading Eric G.
Eric..one of the fortunate things was that Techicolor process was not
a color film at all..to most peoples' surprise, but a one shot color
camera that made b&w separation negatives (on silver stock) for
subsequent three color printing to a release print. Only the prints
faded, not the originals. Of course they had to revive the Technicolor
equipment to reprint new release prints. Also the Taylor Hobson lenses
on the cameras were the first "retrofocus" lenses (long back focus
greater than focal length) in order to clear the beam splitter and
dual film tracks (two of the films were exposed together the third in
a separate channel or track.) BobH
(In a computer scan slides that have a cast due to one layer fading
will often make a good b&w scan.)
