Hyperstereo or telestereo

Increasing the interocular distance often creates spectacular effects (in
both portrait and landscape) but it is not easy to synchronize two
cameras... or to use two variable length periscopes ending in front of the
objective.

Has there been discussion on this topic recently (I am back on the list
after a few month absence) or does somebody on the list know any apparatus
or other resources allowing hyperstereo effects.
