3-D at Town Hall, NY

This past Friday evening, Town Hall in New York City hosted Deborah
Harry (of Blondie fame) and the Jazz Passengers, doing a live
musical/voice soundtrack for a showing of excerpts from those 3-D
classics, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" and "Plan 9 from Outer
     Space."

Sounds cool, huh? While definitely offbeat, the 3-D movie excerpts
were not very impressive. Maybe the screen was too small, maybe the
images were old and musty, maybe you're supposed to wear those silly
blue/red glasses in front (or behind?) your prescription glasses.

Was anyone else at this august event? Is this typical of 3-D movies
from the 50s or was this just a clumsy execution?

It's good to see 3-D at such a mainstream venue, although associating
it was extremely cheesy subject matter doesn't advance the art form.
     Everyone had fun, though.

(If you're wondering, Debbie Harry looked good. She's a brunette,
wears glasses sometimes and no longer sports a model's physique.
While no longer the dangerous femme fatale of the '80s, her voice and
articulation are particularly well-suited to jazz. She can still move
and croon with the best of them!)
