Well, for my el-cheapo type-C viewmaster viewers, I use the
el-cheapo viewmaster light attachment for them, with a Dr. T. halogen bulb
in it.  Works great (for a type-C viewer....).

But more to what you are asking, I like the color/brightness of "reading
lamp" bulbs (G.E. I think).  There are a couple different flavor/wattages,
I think we use the 250 watter (or maybe 170).  Wonderful diffusion, seem 
relatively white, and BRIGHT. Cost is several dollars per bulb.  Thereabouts.
