The mythical 'View-Master machine'

Can someone shed any light on a rumour that keeps popping up in local
View-Master circles?

Apparently, in Sawyer's earliest VM days they made a couple of
modest-size machines that could mount small editions of reels. Now, I'm
not talking about mounting in 'Personal' reels, but true honest-to-goodness
sealed reels.

Is there any truth to this myth? Do any of these machines still
exist? Should I go out and take a 3D photo of Bigfoot now?

                                               :-)jamie.
