George -

Thank you for your response to my posting. I think we can distill your missive into three major points, of which I have a response for each.

1. ALL FORMATS (NIMSLO, FED, TWIN, REALIST) ARE REALLY REALIST FORMAT AS LONG AS THEY	ARE ON TRANSPARENT FILM MEDIA AND FIT IN MY PROJECTOR.

This, of course, is nonsense. The standard nomenclature of both this list and the various publications differentiatea "format" based on aperature size. One need only glance at the front cover of the "Reel 3-D" catalog to see the standard "Stereo Slide Formats": Half-frame, Realist Format, European Format, and Twin 35mm Format.

The original inquirer asked for camera advice. And, it is significant to note that you don't dispute the point and shoot, weight, macro, best "wow" pictures, depth of field gauge, "feel", format, etc. advantages I give to the Nimslo and FED. I must assume, therefore, that you concur.

2. THE WORLD IS NOT DIVIDED INTO THOSE WHO FAVOR MANY FORMATS AND "NARROW-MINDED" REALIST SUPPORTERS.

Quite true. This is why I did not use those words. The word 'affectionado' (the only word I did use) means to "have an undue regard, which is not necessarily supported by reason; to have affection". This in no way means you don't use and enjoy other formats. It only means that you have an undue regard for the Realist which is not necessarily supported by fact.

I find it indeed comical that you have elected to optionally call the Realist a "Brick". This is, of course, a paraphrase of Romeo, the ultimate affectionado, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet." Even your sign-off, "Proud (Affection?) Owner and User of a 3.5 Brick", gives you away. Face facts George, you're a Realist affectionato. :) By your own words, you have indeed made my case far more eloquently than I.

3. YOU TAUGHT SOMEONE TO USE A REALIST IN 10 MINUTES AND IT CAME OFF WITHOUT A HITCH. THE CONCEPT OF SHUTTER SPEED AND APERATURE ARE A BIG PLUS.

I don't believe that you indicated that you gave these same people the opportunity to compare the Realist with the ease of use and weight of the other two options I mentioned. You also didn't address my other concerns with the Realist being time-consuming to use, awkward, and heavy. (An earlier writer even said his Realist sits in the closet most of the time when goes on a photo jaunt.)

Give a newcomer both a Nimslo/FED and a Realist, and they will naturally gravitate to the former every time (Even with your 10 minute super course). And, 95% of the time it won't make a tinker's damn in the quality of their pictures.

Care to give it another go?

Regards - Duane ;)
