Re: PROJECTOR QUESTIONS
>What is the difference between the TDC 116 and 716 except for the power of >the lamps.
Not much... Fan is the same, slide carrier the same... Oh, yes, the TDC 716 has one 3-way switch which allows you to run the fan with the lamps off. In the 116 the fan turns off when you turn off the lamps. I have modified my 116 with a 3-way switch but I recently read an article by Bill Dugan (sp?) who said that it's not a good idea to force-cool the lamps when they are turned off... Their life is shortened, he says... It's the first time that I hear that and Bill is a world renowned projectionist...
>Is the difference in power really worthwhile ?
No. You can always use 750W bulbs in the 116. The cooling fan is the same.
>What is the difference between the 4' and 5' optics ?
Different focal lengths, that's it. Lenses are interchangeable.
>Can both maschines also be used for 7 perf projection (I believe the 116 can)?
The old carrier in the 116 is wide enough to handle 7-p, plus it has a back channel that will take 2x2s. Newer 116 carriers (and all 716? they are interchangeable) have smaller apertures, do not have the back channel and will lock in place so that they cannot be moved easily. I know people who have widened the apertures for 7-p with a file. That's similar to what I do with viewers, but I have never done it to a projector yet...
