|Just as a side note to the archival quality of plastics, I heard recently that

A similar note may be made about devices which include parts made
of "pot metal" (I forget the alloy right offhand - tin/zinc? - or is
that batteries?). Anyway, it turns out that there occurs a spontaneous
decomposition of that alloy when exposed to the atmosphere - it swells
and becomes very crumbly and soft.

I can't recall any cameras which exhibit this problem, but it's a
continual topic of conversation on groups dealing with antique radios,
autos, and so forth.

THANKS!
