Old plastics and New screens

Two topics of recent interest....

Old plastics. We also deal in transistor radios and Catalin radios. The
early, soft plastic and nylon transistor radios are very affected by the
"plasticizer" fumes given off by the earphone and AC cords! It almost looks
like a soldering iron was wiped across the cases. If you have WWII era
cameras in soft plastic cases, check that the cords are not melting into the
cameras. On the Catalins (a type of poured celluloid-type resin), these sets
constantly warp and will crack around any tight metal screws or chassis
parts (the metal doesn't give). Just look at the Coronet if you want to see
a camera equivalent.

On the alternative screens (now used at alternative-Rock theaters??), an
ex-friend used large foam sheets (which come in 4x8 foot sizes in building
stores), and covered them with aluminum paint from a marine shop. This way
he was able to put several sheets together, and have an immense yet
light-weight screen on demand.

thanks..............harry (Vintage TVs and 3D)
