More V.M. Questions

Hi, all,
  A friend found two dity lookin' old red and white V.M. viewers at a garage 
sale... CHEAP.
  Question One:  The thin plastic diffuser thingies got pushed in, on one 
viewer.  It still works, but, I wondered if there was a way to open up the 
viewer, so's I can poke 'em back into place.  Anyone know the answer to this 
one?
  Question two:  The second viewer is much like the first, except the 
openings, to let in the light, are much smaller (but at least the diffusers 
aren't pushed in!)  Can someone tell me something about why there were two 
versions of this model, and which models they are?

(let me guess... they made the openings smaller so the diffusers wouldn't 
get pushed in so easily?  heh heh)
