|    On a somewhat related subject, before turning to the list for help I
|    thought I'd just check the photo-3d archive.  What I found was:

|Archive: photo-3d (path: /usr/users/server/archives/listproc/photo-3d) -- Files:
|  dir (1 part, 0 bytes) 
|  index (1 part, 0 bytes) 
|  archive_9412 (1 part, 305963 bytes) 
|
|    As you might guess from the name -- all that's in "archive_9412" is
|    indeed the postings for December '94.  I take it archiving photo-3d
|    traffic was a very short experiment.

Actually Bill - it's there - but we changed archive format with the
coming of the web. If you can connect to 

http://bobcat.etsu.edu

you will find one link into the ftp area (archives) and another
link into the glimpse search engine. Unless you just want to 
read all the archives for a given period, the glimpse engine is
the way to go. For examle, if you ask for a search for NSA,
you'll get more hits than you know what to do with (probably
"Rochester" would be a better choice :-) Then just click on
the digest citation to see the full text.
