NSA
NSA Convention Impressions
Here is yet another view to add to the many comments about the convention
in Rochester. I am amazed at how much has been written by Tuesday, and the
convention was over just on Sunday! Especially your comments George, as
usual so organized and thorough, how did you manage to do all that after
you told me that you are going back to work on Monday morning?
First, I would like to thank and congratulate all the organizers who did a
great job. With so much coordination to be done, most all went so smoothly.
I would also like to congratulate Larry Moor, the new NSA president.
Congratulations Larry, see you in the folios soon.
One thing that turned out to be an issue apparently, was the choice of the
4th of July weekend for the next convention in Bellevue, WA. Some members
felt that the Fourth may cause many to stay home, while the organizers
explained that the decision was intentional and saved a lot of money in
booking the hotel, etc. The issue, in the opinion of some members, was not
so much the choice of date but the fact that local members from the NW were
not involved in the decision process.
An interesting and perhaps not widely known point made during the
convention by one official, is the fact that NSA officials are not elected
by the members, so the point above may be of academic value only.
Two things that could have made life a bit easier: Name badges with city
and state of the registrant and with larger typeface, so one doesn't have
to pretend admiring the design of the clothes one is wearing, while trying
to read their name... The other thing that is very helpful is a list of
registrants to refer to before and after the convention. (Usually these
have an addendum after the registration is over)
All in all it was a great experience, only my second NSA convention,
although I saw part of the one in Portland a few years ago. I was so happy
to meet so many of you face to face. See you in Bellevue next year.
