Polishing red-button Realist viewer case ?

Hi all:
Is it recommended (possible ?) to try to polish (buff?) the black bakelite
of the red-button realist viewer ...
I was thinking of using Dremel polishing wheel with some polishing compound
(that red paste) to give back some luster to that dull case.
or should I just be conservative and leave it as is ?
