Jim Roberts wrote about plastic lenses that also incorporate a fresnel lens
on their surface for correction. Some time ago I saw a TV programme about a
group developing "Bi-focal" contact lenses on these lines . The
conventional lens was for close up and the Fresnel for distance or vice
versa. Aparently the brain can select which of the two images it wants.
Whether they ever came onto the market I dont know but if they did become
available to prescription it might be possible to get them made for stereo
purposes . As one of the list members who replied to the original request
about stereoscope lenses did with spectacle lenses . Although their small
size would most probably mean you could not look through just the inner
edges let alone cut them in halves to create the divergence for a
stereoscope. They might have other optical and stereo uses however and if
they are or become available they shoul be cheaper that those intended for
military use etc.
