In a message dated 96-09-03 19:57:29 EDT, you write:

<< A consortium should have bought the European operation before Tyco
disbanded it. It should have signed an agreement with Tyco *never* to
produce a reel intended for the children's market. My great fear is that,
when Tyco "restructures" to eliminate its less profitable subsidiaries,
the equipment will be destroyed. Isn't there a Gruber Foundation to help
with this? Surely Gruber must have foreseen this situation. >>

The equipment was not distroyed, the reel making machines and parts of the
viewer line (that could be used) were sent to Portland where they will be
retooled and used. Since all the film was being done (copied, processed ,
etc.) in Portland anyway, Tyco felt it would be more cost effective just to
make the complete reels there. Tyco feels that they can do the whole process
better from a central location. Avoiding lots of shipping and time delays.
They still maintain a warehouse in Belgiun, they have just shifted
production.
