In the May 6, 1996 Electronic Engineering Times there is a cover article
"New image system takes on CCDs". It describes a new material called
Elgraphy that has three times the resolution of CCD digital cameras and
is even better than silver-halide photography.
The Elgraphy panel has a organ photoconductor to capture the image which
is retained in a M-LCPC ( memory-type liquid-crystal/polymer composite).
The Elgraphy frame is scanned to convert the image into a digital signal.
An experimental system built by Dai Nippon Printing Co. has a minimum
resolution of 7 microns compared to 10 microns for a convential 35mm camera.
