Re: Jacques Lajoie HOLOGRAM! ( digest 1549)

A "classic" hologram captures (through a specific kind of magic),
the light paths. When the other half of the "magic" is applied,
the light paths are reconstructed in space just as they were
when the hologram was made. (There are some limitations - i.e.
colour and subject movement, etc)
So, when you view the recontructed light rays, it is as though
you were looking at the original object.
It looks no different than it would if you looked at the original
object with one or two eyes. Move your head and see the sides of
the object. Move up and down and see the top, etc.
Two eyes, "stereo" - one eye, "parallax."
Also, to look at something in the hologram that is closer to you,
you do need to re-focus your eyes, and verge them - just as you
do it three dimensional life-space.
With holography, you are not looking at an image recorded on a
plain, rather you are "seeing" the light as it was coming from
the object.
If you think about it metaphysically, it is spooky and really neat!
...but we aren't allowed to talk about holograms here.
We'll have to meet out by the dumpster after dark. ;-)
