Anaglyph projection is not lossless, you sacrifice a lot of light in the
process.  The projected slide when viewed sans glasses will appear
normally illuminated, but each of the red and blue sides is only 
contributing a portion of the total, so that when filtered by the
glasses each eye receives less than total illumination.  Then the filters
in the glasses are not perfect, the red filter blocks some of the red light
and so does the blue.
