I saw some sort of "glasses-less" 3D system demonstrated a good many years ago
on one of those slick magazine-format shows, which means that information was
pretty minimal. I don't know if it was "Visidep" or not. They did show an image
of a wooded area which actually did have a striking illusion of depth without
any glasses or other viewing aids. The picture seemed to flicker slightly,
although it looked nothing like an alternate-field image without viewers. Since
an AF image alternates as quickly as it is physically possible for a television
image to change, I doubt if this was the type of effect being employed. I
suspect that there were some kind of fairly severe limitations to the system. I
wish I had looked into the story more at the time.
