free-viewing

I am wondering if the pb I have is common:

I can free-view small (around 2x2) pairs,
like the views in John Waldsmith's book,
but I have never been able to free-view those old stereo-views.

I use the wall-eye method, that is, gazing beyond the plane of the view
and focusing at the view (if that matters)

I also have some concern about free-viewing hurting the eyes ...
my eyes have a natural tendency to diverge ... so my eye-doctor
always tells me to do eye-exercises that forces my eyes to converge (like
converging on something small near my nose) ... if I free-view with the wall-eye
method,
ain 't I doing exactly the opposite ??

note that I am also doing a lot of stereograms (magic eye) viewing ...
I guess I am addicted to it.

all in all, is free-viewing (wall-eye) bad when ur eyes naturally diverge ??

Just wondering,
 Hugues -
