I gotta challenge this one George. Sounds like you're making the assumption
that all slides have the same D-max, or maximum density. They do not. Have
you ever tried to view B&W litho positives or Autochromes? Both may require
much more illumination than the average modern color slide, though it's more
in the nature of materials than improper exposure. Regarding grain, I think
for speaking specifically Realist or small formats, as it is not more
prevalent in medium format.
